Yup, he was reelected last year with 83% of the vote.
Now he's in trouble with the ACLU again. He painted all his buses and vehicles with a mural, that has a special hotline phone number painted on it, where you can call and report suspected illegal aliens. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement wasn't doing enough in his eyes, so he had 40 deputies trained specifically for enforcing immigration laws, started up his hotline, and bought 4 new buses just for hauling folks back to the border He's kind of a 'Git-R Dun' kind of Sheriff.

Sued For Discrimination.
He took away cable TV Until he found out there was A Federal Court Order that Required Cable TV For Jails So He Hooked Up The Cable TV Again Only Let In The Disney Channel And The Weather Channel.
When asked why the weather channel He Replied, So They Will Know How Hot It's Gonna Be While They Are Working
ON My Chain Gangs.
He Cut Off Coffee Since It Has Zero Nutritional Value.

Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves.

Nothing that he is doing is inhumane. That is the sweetest part. If you don't want to sweat,don't break the law in a place as hot as AZ. He let them shuck to their boxers. That's humane enough for me. Folks like us get to watch ESPN because we earn our rights by following the law. These guys don't deserve to lounge on their arses watching TV when there's work to be done. I think giving them Disney is too much lol

I just read up on him. His deputies sound like a bunch of thugs them self, they've have caused some unnecessary deaths.

Charles Agster
In August 2001, Charles Agster, a 33-year-old mentally handicapped man, died in the county jail three days after being forced by sheriff's officers into a restraint chair used for controlling combative arrestees. Agster's parents had been taking him to a psychiatric hospital because he was exhibiting paranoia, then called police when he refused to leave a convenience store where they had stopped enroute. Officers took Agster to the Madison Street jail, placed a "spit hood" over his face and strapped him to the chair, where he had an apparent seizure and lost consciousness. He was declared brain dead three days later. A medical examiner later concluded that Agster died of complications of methamphetamine intoxication. In a subsequent lawsuit, an attorney for the sheriff's office described the amount of methamphetamine in Agster's system as 17 times the known lethal dose. The lawsuit resulted in a $9 million jury verdict against the county, the sheriff's office, and Correctional Health Services.

Brian Crenshaw
Brian Crenshaw was a legally blind and mentally disabled inmate who suffered fatal injuries while being held in Maricopa Country Jail.
Crenshaw's family filed a lawsuit against Arpaio and his office, which resulted in an award of $2 million.[57] As in the Scott Norberg case, it was alleged that Arpaio's office destroyed evidence in the case. In the Crenshaw case, the attorney who represented the case before a jury alleged digital video evidence was destroyed

Richard Post
Richard Post was a paraplegic inmate arrested in 1996 for possession of marijuana and criminal trespass. Post was placed in a restraint chair by guards and his neck was broken in the process. The event, caught on video, shows guards smiling and laughing while Post is being injured. Because of his injuries, Post has lost much of the use of his arms.[59] Post settled his claims against the Sheriff's office for $800,000.

On June 11, 2008, Ray Stern, a reporter for the Phoenix New Times, was surrounded and intimidated by several deputies while trying to examine public records at the City of Phoenix public records counter.[71] Stern called City Attorney Gary Verburg, who came down and instructed the deputies that Stern had the right to view the records. The deputies then threatened to simply arrest Stern on the spot. Later, a city "conflict resolution manager" walked up and laid down an Arizona law book. She pointed to the section of public records law that essentially says anyone can look at any public record during business hours. City Attorney Verburg told the deputies again that Stern had the right to look at any public record. Upon hearing that, the deputies warned Stern again that if he tried to look at the documents he would be arrested.[72]
The events reported by the New Times are substantively verified in a memo drafted by Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Commander James Miller. In this memo, Miller states that the deputies did threaten to arrest Stern if he touched any of the records, and that he (Miller) held one of the records out in front of Stern, saying "take it", to create a pretense to arrest Stern. Miller also reported that the situation escalated into a standoff with the Phoenix Police, when they warned him not to attempt to arrest Stern.
I think he started out with a good idea, but turned into someone who wanted attention - esp when he set up webcasts in the jail. The TV's, magazines, pink underwear aren't the problem and I don't really care about that. If you keep pressing these inmates, they're going to keep getting pissed which will lead to more attacks on guards IMO. But the 150 degree tents the jail inmates are having to stay in is pretty dangerous, I wouldn't care if these were murderers and rapist but they aren't. That's going to cause some deaths, which is too far.
Do you really have any idea just how easy it is to file a lawsuit? Anytime you are tough on convicts,you'll get lawsuits filled often with baseless allegations. Not really much point in going around with you on this though. We've been to that that rodeo before. I am much less-liberal than you on this (folks would worry if I weren't),and that's cool. You have a right to your opinion (whether I agree or not). I will say this,and then let it go: as for the level of convicts these folks are? In all my years of dealing with convicts,I have learned that 99% of hardcore inmates had a "starting point",that they were like these guys in these tents at some point. Almost all of these guys got away with many offenses before getting caught. In these folks in AZ's case,these folks who work for Joe are a shank to the gut away from seeing a convict go from a low level to a Red Onion-type facility. A con is a con is a con. They are all manipulative and dangerous (losing your freedom makes you a threat regardless of your level). Honest hard-working taxpayers sink their dollars into a service that sadly is needed. They don't anty-up to see us buddy any of them. We could take a local poll here on this forum and get an idea/see if folks on here think Joe is being too hard on them. I'd take my chances banking on how it would go.

LOL r The dude wasn't mentally handicapped he was a meth head. The paranoia was from the meth. The death was from the meth. Good lord dont even try and spin that one. Ive always like him. I would hate to get busted for anything in his county.
But the lawsuits were won, not just filed. That means they were guilty. I am with the guy on a lot of this, but there is some of it went too far. Just can't really imagine being forced to live in 150 degree heat. Lets just agree to disagree on this one.
The next time you see a vet thank him then,because tons of them have/are doing that. At least the cons don't have folks shooting at them/blowing up stuff. A soldier knows that this is part of the deal,and a con needs to learn what comes along with his "deal" as well.
